Bus for early morning flight out of Rome Fiumicino airport (FCO) Leanardo Da Vinci

Ok.. I put this up because there is very little information about the public transport to the Roma's main international airport at Fiumicino (Leanardo Da Vinci airport) for early morning flights. Even if you ask around all the bus drivers or information center, not many people know about it. The information center inside the Roma Termini train station knows about it and can guide you. So also check with them to make sure the bus service is still on.
Leanardo express: There is a fast express train from Roma termini to the airport. But the first train starts only at 5:58 AM and reaches the airport at 6:30 AM or so... So what if you have Flight very early like 6:30 or so ??
COTRAL Night Buses: There are buses run by a company called COTRAL that is more like Night buses to the airport. The last of the night buses leave Roma Tiburtini Bus station and also stops at Piazza dei Cinquecento in front of the Roma Termini train station at 3:45 AM. Since I recently took this bus and found no information whatso ever about where the bus actually stops and its so easy to miss it, I have marked it on the map (Blue baloon on bottom left corner of map indicates the actual bus stop). Its almost the North west corner of the Piazza dei Cinquecento and just right outside Roma termini. Basically it is very close to one of the exit point of the bus station, where most buses exit and the this bus turns right onto Via Cavour after exiting the Piazza. You will find a small board at the indicated location on the side that says COTRAL and also the timings of the night buses. The color of the bus is BLUE contrary to the usual city buses(AMT buses) which are RED in color. If you get confused ask the small shop owner(shop that sells coffee, snacks etc.) in the pizza bus station and he can direct you. The 3:45AM bus leave Tiburtini at 3:45 and comes to Termini within a few minutes and reaches airport by 4:30 AM or so. So be there by 3:45AM and if the bus doesn't show up on time, dont worry.. its Italy.. you just need some patience. It will come.. :).. It costs about 7 EUR (as of Dec 2008). Prices may vary and you buy tickets in the bus itself. Hope this helps.. What if you miss this bus too ?? well.. then.. take a TAXI which easily costs about 50 EUR or more. :)

Buses to Roma Ciampino airport: There are regular buses for all flight timings from outside Roma Termini to Roma Ciampino airport. These buses leave from Via Marsala (Top right corner blue baloon on Via Marsala). There is an exit to Via Marsala from inside the Train station itself. It is to the right side if you leave the train station facing Piazza dei Cinquecento. You can even find these bus informations even from the Ryan air website as Ryanair flies out of Ciampino.

Planning a trip to Rome? I suggest to start by visiting vacation rentals in rome to find an accommodation for any budget...

Thanks for the thread, it helped me a lot!
I took the bus at 3.45 on Sunday and it was just cool. I have some more additional info concerning this issue.

COSTS:
You can either pay 7 € on board or get a ticket for 4.5 € at a "tabacchi" at Termini, but it was quite difficult to find the right tabacchi store - they only had it in one of the four you can find at Termini, but it was worth the effort!
(up to date on 26th July 2009)

Very helpful thread - the bus is a great option! For the 4.50 euro ticket, just visit one of the Tabacchi shops INSIDE Termini station - the ones outside don't sell it.

Thanks for the bus info! It was very helpful on our trip this past November.

FYI You can buy the bus tickets inside the station from the Tabacchi shop located directly across from Track 10.

Hope this saves someone a trip to each and every Tabacchi like we did :)

This was great information, thanks. We were planning on taking the train from Trastevere but our flight leaves too early for that, and we didn't want to fork out the 50 euros for a taxi.

I need to take a very early morning flight out of Rome in November, and am writing to ask if this service is 365 days/year?

Thanks, Janet

Used it yesterday (20th June 2011) for my Easyjet early morning flight. The only "problem" that I had was to find the "Tabacchi" store inside the train station (do this during the day, at night they are closed), but finally everything went fine.

Hello Luis,

Could you tell me if the bus stop near terminal 2? Or it stops near terminal 3.
I also will have a Easyjet morning flight.

Thank you very much

Jose Bernardo

Thanks for all the information!

I took this bus for an early easyJet flight in August 2011 on Sunday (or better say Monday morning, since it was the 00:30h bus) and it went without a problem. The bus was at termini at 00:45 and it took about 35 minutes to get to the airport. It stops infront of Terminal 3 and it takes a couple of minutes of walking to get to Terminal 2. Maybe you can ask the driver to stop at T2 but there's no need.

One thing that is different is the table at the bus stop infront of Termini station. There is no timetable (like the image in the post says). In August 2011 the table looked like this:

I hope this was of some help! :)

Thanks a bunch for posting this and the map image. That helped tremendously to know where on the street the actual bus stop is at. The sign is there and with all the scheduled times. We used it earlier this week on 12/1/14.

We caught the 2:30 bus and he showed up about 2:45, and the driver waved us inside and said Fiumicino airport and told us to take a seat. Only one other woman was on the bus and she talked to the driver the whole time in Italian. He dropped us off at Terminal 3 and collected our 7 euro each.

Because of it being the middle of the night the ride is only 30 mins since there isn't any traffic.

Most people and even hotels don't know about this bus service. Although we bought a Roma card inside the train station at the Roma card counter and that woman knew of the bus service and said yes its Cotral.

I know many tourists pay the 50-60 euro for the taxi service to the airport because they don't know this night bus service exists. I wish it was more widely advertised.

Hello friend, thank you very much for the valuable information! Who wants to pay a taxi at 50e? :)
its 25 of June 2015, and I am planing to use this bus when I go from Rome to Fiumicino in 6 days.
I have a question: Does this bus stop somewhere on the way to the airport? Acctualy it is going to be a problem for me to get to Termini station in 3 am, because my place is 12km to the west of Termini..
Any tips?

Thanks
